EeStairs + SHoP Architects
EeStairs made and installed several staircases, railings, or stair structures in the extremely narrow 1428ft residential tower in New York created by ShoP Architects. The interiors were designed by Studio Sofield and the tight helical geometry of the stairs reflects the need to maximise the use of limited space in a building with an exceptionally ‘skinny’ height-to-width ration of 24:1.
The staircases we made for the tower required precise 3D scans of the individual stair spaces, and the gathering of accurate geometric data was initially challenging because the working areas around the stairs sites were not completely clear of other materials.
Another equally big challenge was getting the stair structures into the tower, but EeStairs’ highly experienced installation teams were successful. The staircase pictured here, which rises through a duplex apartment on the 70th and 71st floors, has marble treads, and a balustrade with steel pickets and black-stained wooden handrail.
