EeStairs + KAA Design Group
The architecture of this staircase, in a Los Angeles luxury home overlooking the sea, is an exercise in geometry and invisible details. The stairs rise through two storeys and the clean-lined geometry is the result of key design developments and processes. The architects, KAA Design, provided us with a concept for the shape of the stairs and our in-house design team helped them to refine specific details relating to structure and finishes.
We modelled the flowing stair form with absolute accuracy using 3D software. The perfect geometric of the flat-cut white oak soffit required an elaborate mounting structure for the panels. The geometry of the Starphire laminated glass balustrades accentuate the geometric precision, and the wood of the the stringer and soffit connect seamlessly, without showing any of the intricate woodworking details. The commitment of the contractor, Richard Holz Inc, was important to these outcomes.
Another notable aspect of this project was the site of the house, at the end of a long driveway. It was not possible to get the truck carrying the stairs near the house, and so our team used a Lull telehandler to carry the stair sections the rest of the way.
