Juwelier TenSen, Antwerpen [BE]
EeStairs + WSB interieurbouw bv
EeStairs supplied several stairs for the fashionable TenSen jewellery store in Antwerp, but the most impressive and visually enjoyable element is the aerial walkway that ‘floats’ high above the ground floor and connects the first floor offices to a staircase leading to the upper level.
EeStairs faced two considerable challenges. First, their in-house design and engineering team had to ensure that the architect’s concept, which was delivered as relatively simple SketchUp visuals, would be structurally secure – yet also refined in detail. Our team carried out precise on-site measurements, and then collaborated with the architect to develop the final design, to ensure that all the connections and the load- and hang-points would be accurate.
Having made the walkway and staircase in our factory, the second challenge was to install the unusually heavy structures, composed of steel, oak, and EeStairs’ TransParancy structural glass, to a very tight construction deadline. There are tram stops and traffic-lights outside TenSen, and subsurface power-lines, so our installation team had to take great care not to put excessive weight on certain parts of the street.
