EeStairs + WnS Architecten
You could say that WNS Architecten’s design of a palazzo-style home in The Hague, the Netherlands, revolves around the stairs, which are single most visible feature of the interior. The staircase rises through the core of the house, from the ground floor to the top floor, with a large skylight directly above.
The design of the stairs has a metro luxe style and we took meticulous care with the materials and the making and fitting of the staircase. The steps are marble and stained oak, and it was crucial that the marble risers met the bottom edges of the treads with absolute precision to avoid even the smallest of gaps.
To achieve this, we worked directly with the marble supplier and gave them moulds of each tread so that they could cut the marble with millimetre accuracy. We took the same degree of care with the glass balustrades and their metal capping and bases – and the result is particularly satisfying where the glass is elegantly radiused.
