EeStairs + Van der Jeugd Architecten
The three staircases in this residence in Holten, show how versatile EeStairs can be when asked to design, make and install stairs – in this case, an elegant helical feature staircase, a tight spiral, and a very simple and functional spiral metal staircase down to the basement EeStairs worked closely with the architect for the residence, Gerard van Halen.
The white helical feature stairs connect the ground and first floors and their graceful composition is heightened by the almost detail-free sweep of the inner metal balustrade and the curved glass outer balustrade, neither of which has a separate handrail. The open, pre-cast treads have an unusual trapezoidal section, with a very slightly raised tread-edge which creates a crisply graphic sense of rotation.
The white-painted spiral staircase has an outer steel balustrade and handrail, and rotates around a steel column. The open treads appear to be made of wood – but because the stairs are exposed to the weather, EeStairs made the treads with PVC, coloured and patterned to look like teak.
